COMMON RUNNING INJURIES WE TREAT
Runner's knee (PFPS) IT band syndrome Shin splints Plantar fasciitis Achilles tendinopathy Stress fractures Hamstring strains Hip & glute pain

Each runner is treated as an individual. Training volume, running gait, footwear, injury history, and race goals all factor into how care is delivered.

Choosing the Right Physical Therapy for Runners

As a runner, you want to know you’re choosing care that understands mileage, cadence, and the way repetitive load builds over a training block — not generic rehab.

You also want to know how treatment works. Our care goes beyond stretching and rest. We assess your gait, strength, and mechanics, then build progressive loading around your goals and your next start line.

The proof is in the outcomes.

Runners trust us when they want to keep training and stay durable, not just wait out an injury. When you’re ready, schedule your assessment and start moving toward pain-free miles.

I came here because I was looking to improve my flexibility and I was having some pain in my shoulder and lower back. At the time, Id say 2 years prior, I started getting into the gym and strength training. I really wanted to figure out how to get over some hurdles that I was running into and I was looking to grow in knowledge and understanding. I found out I had some hip and shoulder mobility issues and my process is not something that can be fixed over night. Dr Erin was very patient and took the time to talk over all my concerns and discuss a course of action. She was willing to work with me and gave me different options or stretches or correctives that fit my comfort level. She was very personable and knowledgeable. I have made a lot of improvements under the tutelage of Dr. Erin. I think the biggest thing I learned was that sometimes, although I want my body to be able to bend and flex wherever, understanding my own limitations is important to actually improving. Thank you!

When I walked into the Next Level clinic I could not run more than a couple of miles without feeling pain in my Achilles tendon. I was sidelined and concerned that my running and hiking days might just be over. Maybe I was just getting old? Maybe my body just couldn't take it anymore? Then I met Dr. Matthew Simcox and started my journey to recovery. From day one, "Dr. Matt" listened to what I was going through and perhaps more importantly asked ME what MY goals were. When I told him I wanted to be able to keep backpacking and running ultramarathons he didn't laugh like some other doctors probably would have done. He said, ok, and then went to work developing a plan to get me exactly where I wanted to be. After a thorough analysis we determined that the pain I was feeling in my Achilles was actually tied to my poor hip rotation. The Achilles was just the weakest part of the chain that started up at my hip so, of course, that's where my weakness was being exposed. For the next several weeks, we spent sessions focusing on exercises and treatment to target the entire chain -- hip, hamstring, knee, calf, ankle, foot, etc. He taught me everything I could ever want to know about stretching and foam rolling. And we tracked the progress, taking measurements to show results that supported the work along the way. But the real results came later, after I left Next Level and Dr Matt's immediate care. They came in the numerous backpacking trips and the ultramarathons I have completed since then and continue to be able to do since leaving their care. They come in the moments when I wake up feeling a little stiff after a hard training day but I know why and how to help myself. If you're where I was a few years ago and you're wondering if paying the price for treatment at Next Level is worth it I can honestly say it's the best money I've ever spent. It's expensive, yes, but when you look back and compare the investment years later and consider where you are versus where you might have been without it...just make the investment in yourself! You'll be so glad you did!!

Of all the PTs id been to in my many years of running Id say Kate is by far the most knowledgeable. She not only was able to treat the symptoms of my injury/pain and build a rehab plan, but also was able to identify the main culprits in what was causing my issues. 10/10

I came to see Dr. Matt Simcox after foot surgery because I was having a really difficult time getting my strength and mobility back. I had already gone through several months of recovery, including time in a boot and PT somewhere else, but I was still struggling. I couldn’t walk normally without pain, couldn’t push off my big toe, and couldn’t even do one single-leg heel raise. At that point, I was frustrated and honestly starting to wonder if my foot was ever going to feel normal again. That’s when I decided to give Next Level Therapy a try. What immediately stood out to me was how thorough Matt was. My first appointment was a full hour, and he took the time to really evaluate how my foot and lower leg were moving rather than just giving me a list of exercises. He was able to identify areas that weren’t functioning the way they should and, more importantly, explain everything to me in a way that actually made sense. Every session after this was just under an hour of one-on-one care and completely focused on what my foot needed. The exercises were purposeful and progressed as I improved. I never felt like I was just going through a standard PT routine. Matt always explained what we were working on and why, which gave me a much better understanding of my recovery. The home exercises were also extremely organized. I received videos so I knew exactly how to perform everything, and the program progressed from mobility and soft tissue work into activation and strengthening. Dry needling was also incorporated into my treatment, which was another tool that helped me along the way. But probably the biggest difference for me was the personal attention. In my past experiences with PT, I was often one of several patients being treated at the same time, so I never felt like I was getting true one-on-one care. Next Level was completely different. Every session was dedicated to me, my specific needs, and my recovery. Matt genuinely cared about my progress. He checked in between appointments, answered my questions, and made me feel like my recovery was important to him, not like I was simply another appointment on the schedule. After 11 sessions, I can honestly say I feel like I have my foot back. I can walk normally, push off my big toe, perform heel raises, and, something I wasn't sure would happen, I'm running and sprinting again. My strength and confidence in my foot have come a long way. I'm incredibly grateful I found Next Level Therapy and Dr. Matt Simcox. If you're looking for individualized physical therapy where the therapist really takes the time to understand what's going on and build a plan around you, I highly recommend giving them a try.

Next Level Physical Therapy made me a runner again!! I was a competitive runner up to my 60's. I injured my hip due to inactivity during Covid. When I tried running aggressively again this resulted in Hip Pain . X-Rays revealed I was bone on bone. The Doctor recommended Hip Replacement as the Only solution. My hip was so bad he said that Physical Therapy would not help. I found Next Level Physical Therapy on the Internet and decided to give them a try. Dr. Dan explained that he would work with me One on One. Not like another Physical Therapy place that I went to a few years prior. They had several different PT's that never really learn about your body. I went to NLPT in February. My stated goal to Dr. Dan was No Hip Replacement and to play softball and RUN in April. I am Excited to say that both goals were attained! I can not thank Dr. Dan and Next Level Physical Therapy Enough! Jim D.

Dr. Erin is the BEST!!! I had been dealing with recurring hip and back injuries from endurance sports for years, and eventually the pain became so severe that I had to stop running altogether. I had been to countless PT clinics and seen multiple doctors, but no one was able to identify the true root cause of my injuries. While I could get temporary relief, the pain always returned as soon as I increased my training volume. Dr. Erin completely changed that. She took the time to identify the underlying issue and designed a personalized rehabilitation plan that progressively and thoughtfully increased my workload as I got stronger. Her expertise and individualized approach helped me feel like I was actually addressing the cause of the problem instead of just managing the symptoms. Not only is Dr. Erin incredibly knowledgeable, but she's also patient, encouraging, funny, and genuinely kind, which makes PT sessions something I actually look forward to. Thanks to her, I've been able to return to running, train at higher volumes than I could before my injuries, and regain confidence in both my body and my abilities. If you're feeling frustrated by recurring injuries/pain that won't go away, I can't recommend Dr. Erin and Next Level PT highly enough!

Since being introduced to Dr. Matt and his team at Next Level PT through my company, Platoon Fitness, I've been nothing but impressed. As a personal trainer, it's incredibly important to have physical therapists I trust to refer my clients to, and after working with Dr. Matt myself, that trust has only grown. I've already referred three clients to Next Level PT because I know they'll receive exceptional care and have heard nothing but glowing reviews! When I first started treatment, my left hip was extremely restricted. I had difficulty moving it through multiple ranges of motion, and was afraid this may really have a negative impact on my running. Dr. Matt took the time to identify the root of the issue, explained everything clearly, and built a plan that actually worked. Throughout the process, he has been encouraging, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in my progress. Now, I'm increasing my marathon training mileage pain-free and moving in positions, that used to bother me, without issue! As someone who works in the fitness industry every day, I appreciate how seamlessly he bridges rehabilitation with returning to performance rather than simply getting patients out of pain. Dr. Matt and his entire team are professional, welcoming, and truly care about helping people succeed. Whether you're recovering from an injury, dealing with nagging pain, or looking to get back to doing what you love, I can't recommend Next Level PT enough.

Next Level Physical Therapy is the real deal. Dr. Matt Simcox is truly next level in his care and attention for his clients. He is professional and relates well to his clients. He goes the extra mile and he knows his stuff. My high school daughter was having knee pain and some ankle pain. We went to Next Level Physical Therapy for the free evaluation. Dr. Matt was very thorough and walked us through everything he was doing. He explained how the body was connected and as a result of my daughter's previous injuries and hip misalignment, the knees were overcompensating. Her hips, knees, and ankles were out of whack. Since she is a track athlete and was in the middle of the season, so he developed a 11 week plan tailored to her specific issues. He asked her what her goals were and came up with a plan to help her achieve those goals. She started out with minimal hip rotation, pain in her knee, and ankle stiffness. She had plateaued in her running events. Through a combination of his expertise, soft tissue techniques, exercises, etc, Dr Matt found what worked for our daughter and what her body responded to. Each session he took time to see how her day or weekend was, kept her engaged, and connected with her. Every week he sent messages seeing how she was doing and asking about her track meets. It was such a personal touch and let me know that he truly cared about our daughter as a person. He remembered details about her and encouraged her. Even when she injured her other knee, he brought us in to check her out and swiftly shifted to addressing the new injury. She had 5 days before a major competition and we weren't sure she would be able to compete. However, Dr. Matt identified the issue, came up with some solutions and exercises to help her body quickly respond so that she would still be able to compete. This was a major blessing because she would have been devastated if she couldn't compete. At the end of the 11 weeks, my daughter met her goals. She qualified for Districts and New Balance Nationals. She no longer has pain in her right knee and her hips are better aligned. She ran her PR in 2 events and got her PR, breaking her school record in the long jump. After each week, she was making significant progress at her meets. This would not have been possible without the help of Dr Matt. We are thankful. It was well worth the investment. I highly recommend Dr. Matt Simcox at Next Level Physical Therapy. He rocks!

Dr. Devi is literally the best answer/cure that every perpetually injured runner could possibly hope to have and work with. I went to Next Level to do a running gait analysis after about 10 years of pain from running-induced sciatica that ended up getting to the point where it was sending painful shocks all the way up my back from impact. Devi is a seasoned runner herself and is super knowledgeable about anatomy, and it's so reassuring to go into a session and openly discuss running related injuries and soreness at length, and actually get answers back as to what's wrong and what to do besides "stretch and ice it". As I made progress we naturally found other problem areas which were the results of old injuries never fully addressed, to which she modified my recovery plan each time, and since then I've been running pain-free and I haven't had back pain since first calling Next Level. "I can't run because it throws my back out" was proven wrong and I'm happy I got to work with Devi at Next Level to heal my injuries.

I wanted to share my experience with next level physical therapy and Dr. Devi. I last ran the broad street run 25 years ago and returned to running recently with the goal of running broad street once again, unfortunately my body is 25 years older as well. Dr. Devi has been wonderful getting me in running condition and teaching me that knee pain isn't just about the knees--this was an important lesson! The exercises she taught me have really worked but most importantly were easy for me to do on my own between visits. Running broad street this sunday! Thanks!
