Hip Pain

Hip pain can make every step, squat, and workout feel limited. We identify what is restricting your movement and rebuild the strength and control you need to move freely again.

WHEN YOUR HIP STARTS LIMITING EVERYTHING

YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE TO WORK AROUND EVERY STEP

Hip pain often shows up as stiffness, pinching, or a deep ache during walking, squatting, running, or getting in and out of a chair. As it lingers, you may shorten your stride, avoid certain depths, or shift more work into the opposite leg.

Those adjustments can keep you moving temporarily, but they also change how force travels through the pelvis, back, and knee. Rest may calm the area down, yet the symptoms often return once you increase training, sit for too long, or move into positions the hip no longer tolerates well.

We assess the mobility, strength, and control needed for the hip to move freely and support the rest of your body.

Instead of avoiding painful positions, we help your hip regain the capacity to handle them.

1-ON-1, EVERY SESSION
Your full appointment is with a licensed physical therapist, never split between patients or handed off to an aide.

SOUND FAMILIAR?

HOW YOUR HIP PAIN SHOWS UP

Hip pain can feel completely different depending on the movement, position, or activity that triggers it. These common patterns help us understand what your hip is struggling to handle.

PINCHES WHEN YOU BEND

A sharp pinch in the front of the hip during squats, sitting low, or bringing the knee up. Usually a sign the joint is not moving cleanly.

STIFF AFTER SITTING

Fine once you get moving, but tight and sore after driving, desk work, or getting up from the couch. The hip is losing tolerance to stillness.

PAIN ON THE OUTSIDE

An ache along the outside of the hip when lying on that side, walking, or standing too long. Often a load management and control problem.

YOUR STRIDE CHANGES

You shorten your step, limp, or avoid pushing off fully. The body starts working around the hip instead of trusting it to do its job.

THE ROOT CAUSE

WHAT WE CHECK BEFORE TREATING YOUR HIP

01

WHERE YOUR HIP LOSES MOTION

We test rotation, extension, and depth to see which positions feel blocked, pinched, or restricted during movement.

02

HOW WELL YOUR HIP CREATES STABILITY

We look at whether the hip can control your pelvis and leg during single-leg work, running, squatting, and changing direction.

03

WHERE YOUR BODY COMPENSATES

Limited hip function can shift extra work into the lower back, knee, or opposite side without you realizing it.

04

WHAT YOUR HIP CAN HANDLE

We compare your current capacity with the demands of lifting, running, sport, work, and everyday activity.

CONDITIONS TREATED

HIP CONDITIONS WE TREAT

A diagnosis identifies the irritated tissue, but it does not explain why the hip became painful or restricted. We treat the condition while restoring the motion, strength, and control needed for lasting relief.

Hip Impingement (FAI) Hip Labral Tear Hip Arthritis Hip Dysplasia Snapping Hip Syndrome Hip Instability
MUSCLE & TENDON-RELATED
Hip Flexor Strain Gluteal Tendinopathy Hamstring Strain Adductor & Groin Strain Piriformis Syndrome Muscle Pain & Tightness

YOUR RECOVERY PLAN

YOUR HIP PAIN GAME PLAN

Four phases designed to restore comfortable motion, rebuild strength, and prepare your hip for the demands of daily life and training.

PHASE 01

REDUCE THE IRRITATION

Ease painful or pinching positions while keeping the hip moving enough to prevent added stiffness and guarding.

PHASE 02

RECLAIM YOUR MOTION

Restore the rotation and extension needed for walking, squatting, sitting, and moving without compensation.

PHASE 03

STRENGTHEN THE HIP

Build the glute, trunk, and single-leg control needed to keep the pelvis stable under real movement demands.

PHASE 04

RETURN TO FULL RANGE

Progressively reintroduce deeper squats, running, lifting, cutting, or sport until the hip feels strong and dependable.

COMMON QUESTIONS

BACK PAIN QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Why does my hip pinch when I squat or bring my knee up? +
A pinch at the front of the hip can happen when the joint lacks room, control, or tolerance in deeper positions. We assess your hip rotation, squat mechanics, pelvic control, and surrounding mobility to determine what is limiting the movement and how to improve it.
Should I stretch a hip that always feels tight? +
Not automatically. A hip can feel tight because it is stiff, irritated, weak, or working overtime to create stability. Stretching may help temporarily, but lasting improvement usually requires identifying why the tension keeps returning and addressing the underlying movement or strength deficit.
Why does my hip hurt after sitting for a long time? +
Prolonged sitting keeps the hip in a shortened position and reduces how often the joint moves through its available range. If the hip is already sensitive or restricted, standing up and taking the first few steps can feel stiff or painful until the area begins moving again.
Can physical therapy help hip impingement or a labral tear? +
In many cases, yes. Treatment can improve usable range of motion, strengthen the muscles that support the joint, and modify the movements that repeatedly provoke symptoms. Your response to treatment, activity goals, and severity of symptoms help determine whether additional medical input is needed.
How long does hip pain usually take to improve? +
Some people notice less stiffness or easier movement within the first few visits. Rebuilding enough mobility, strength, and tolerance for deeper squats, running, lifting, or sport takes longer. After evaluating your hip, we will give you a realistic timeline based on your condition and goals.
Do I need a referral, and do you take insurance? +
In New Jersey and Pennsylvania, you can see a physical therapist directly in most cases. We work with many major insurance plans and offer straightforward self-pay options. Send us your information and we will verify your benefits before you begin.

After years of trying other PTs, I came across an instagram ad and decided to check out next level. I was lucky enough to get to work with Dr. Jose. He was by far the most experienced and educated DPT I have worked with. After suffering from back and hip pain for over a decade, he took the time to break down and explain what was going on after various tests and measurements. He was the first clinician ever to explain the impact the nervous system was having on my pain, and actually measure and find certain imbalances. Every exercise was something I had never done before. There was nothing cookie cutter about my sessions…they were all tailored and adjusted to my issues and progression. The staff was always welcoming and accommodating, especially Rachael. The facility and equipment were immaculate. I couldn’t recommend them more. Very grateful for the results I experienced at next level thanks to Dr. Jose.

I had a great experience at Next Level Physical Therapy working with Dr. Elyse. She was incredibly thorough and took the time to build a rehab plan that fit seamlessly into my training for the Broad Street Run. Everything felt very personalized, and I really appreciated how she explained the “why” behind each exercise and what it was addressing in my body. Not only did my plan feel manageable alongside my running, but it also significantly reduced my hip pain. Working in healthcare myself, I appreciated understanding the specifics of what was causing my pain. I also valued the time she took to not only formulate a plan for me, but provide a variety of options and exercises that helped me feel like an athlete again rather than someone held back by hip pain. Highly recommend for anyone looking for thorough, individualized care!

Elyse has been so amazing since day one with helping figure out what caused my pain, how to fix it, and how to prevent it in the future. I thought I was going to PT for simple hip pain from over-training, but I’ve learned so much about how my body moves and how it’s all connected to things I’ve been dealing with for years. Now that my pain is no longer a problem, I’ve been increasing the intensity of my workouts, and she’s been so great with prescribing innovative and thoughtful movements to help prevent injury in the future. She’s the best!!!

Dr. Meghan was just awesome in helping get rid of a nagging hip pain. She was patient and really listened to my concerns. She was very thorough in her evaluation and gave me the perfect strengthening exercises I needed to balance my body and get me back to my old self! Thanks Dr. Meghan!

I came to Next Level after many many months of dealing with back and hip pain. Exercise was out of the question. After a few short months with Dr Saige Gomez that has dramatically changed. Dr Saige takes the time to understand you and your real or percieved limitations. Every visit is one on one attention and adjusting or changing the plan as needed. Don't settle with the same old pt where you are given a set of exercises and then told to find the therapist when you are done! Looking back at how far I have come is something I would not have believed a few months ago. You need to see Dr Saige - you will not be disappointed.

All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming, but I truly cannot say enough about my experience working with Dr. Matt. From my very first session Dr. Matt took the time to really get to know me - my goals, my expectations, my concerns, etc. I had spoken to multiple PTs in the past about my chronic knee/hip pain and all that I ever got was bandaids that treated the symptoms, not the cause. Dr. Matt took an amazingly holistic approach and actually treated the *cause* of my pain! Not only is Dr. Matt an incredibly knowledgeable and thorough clinician, he is also a lovely human being. He always made me super comfortable and kept our sessions fun. I actually looked forward to going to physical therapy!

I was recommended to Artem Imnadze at Next Level Physical Therapy by my personal trainer. I am an active 67 year old female and have exercised since I was 18 years old. I have right hip arthritis and was told by an orthopedic surgeon that “I will know when I need to get hip replacement surgery”. I felt that my hip arthritis discomfort did effect my activities but I was not ready for a hip replacement. Once I started physical therapy with Artem my pain level and range of motion improved dramatically. Before starting PT I had difficulty finding a comfortable position for sleeping and complained of right hip pain. Artem gave me a program which improved my range of motion and eliminated my hip pain entirely. He also gave me a program, with videos to follow, which I can continue with on my own. Artem is a very knowledgeable, professional and excellent physical therapist. I think Artem is one of the best physical therapist in the field. Artem improved my quality of life and I highly recommend him.

I was skeptical when I saw Next Level's ad on youtube, but it spoke to my experience--five years ago, I began to have hip pain after walking. I sought help about a year later, and since then, I've been through PT twice, have gotten four cortisone shots, taken arthritis medication and had osteopathic manipulation. I've seen two orthopedists and a pain specialist. I got relief from cortisone shots in my SI joint, but the relief was only partial. I was at the point of accepting that, at age 65, I would be limited to walking and standing for no more than 45 minutes a day. I'm glad I bit the bullet and made the commitment, because the youtube ad was right, this practice is different. I've been working with Dr. Devi for eight weeks (and I mean working!) and can now walk pain-free for 30 minutes, multiple times a day. I'm within sight of my goal--walking 40 minutes each way to and from my train. I appreciate Dr. Devi's expertise and her commitment, she prepares for my sessions and I have her full attention during our appointments. If an exercise doesn't work for me, she's always got alternatives to keep my recovery moving forward. If you have physical challenges, you haven't tried everything until you've tried Next Level.

A number of injuries that I had sustained through sports growing up, caught up to me. I had back pain, neck pain, hip pain, and abdominal pain. I went to numerous doctors and had many scans completed, only to be told over and over again, we don't have a diagnosis for you. A friend recommended me to Dr. Artem, and I went through the initial consult with him. It was a thorough consult of every injury that I've ever had, and every scan/ doctor visit I had before seeing him. After the consult, he concluded he could help me. After 10 visits, not only do I feel 100% better, I learned an abundance of knowledge. Knowledge that will help me sustain feeling better through learned exercises and soft tissue work with Dr. Artem. This was a life changing experience. Thank you!

I've been working with Dr. Matt at Next Level for about 7 weeks now and it's been a great experience! I went in with hip pain that I've had for at least a year and he was able to quickly diagnosis the cause and create a plan to address it. I'm almost pain free with a couple sessions to go and feel like I now know some useful exercises to do to help myself in the future. The services are expensive but I've found the results to be worth it. Matt is very personable, a great listener and easy to talk to - and is serious about helping his patients. Highly recommended!
